- Location: International Institute of Social Studies, Aula A Kortenaerkade 12, 2518 AX The Hague
In collaboration with Visual Rebellion Myanmar and Human Rights in the Picture, ISS is organising a photo-exhibition about the diverse communities engaged in the street protests in Myanmar. These pictures were taken by a team of young journalists in the weeks following the 1st of February 2021 military coup in Nay Pyi Daw. Some of them remain in Myanmar, and some are exiled, but all are still reporting on what's happening in the country.
The launch event will be held in Aula A on 20th January 2023, 13:00 – 14:00 hours, Netherlands time. Laure Siegel, founder of Visual Rebellion Myanmar, Mi-Kun, a Burmese journalist and Thet Oo Maung, a Burmese filmmaker will be present online and talk about their experiences of documenting resistance to the military regime via different journalistic and artistic forms amid severe escalating repression.
Please join us for the discussion, followed by a small refreshment at the Butterfly Bar on the first floor of the ISS building.
You cannot make it for the launch event? Please don’t worry! You can come to visit anytime during IISS opening hours as the exhibition will be up at the Atrium for one month.
You can also purchase "Myanmar // A Visual Guide to the Spring Revolution", a photo-book produced by the Visual Rebellion Myanmar collective which depicts a chronology of events since the coup. Your contribution will help support fund for the journalists from Visual Rebellion reporting on Myanmar.
