Just Peace Open Day Walking Tours

Walk or bike with a guide through the city center of The Hague or the international zone with the Just Peace walking tours. During the Just Peace Open Day on Sept. 24, three guided tours will take you past organisations that advocate for peace, justice and human rights worldwide.

Tour 1: Standing up for democracy and human rights

Defending human rights and democracy is a core part of many organizations in The Hague. This tour takes you through the center of The Hague and tells the stories of organizations that stand up for human rights worldwide. Immerse yourself in stories and information about the democratic rule of law. This tour passes monumental buildings, art, statues and for example the statue of William of Orange, one of the founders of modern Dutch democracy.

This tour will begin at The Hague Humanity Hub, where you are welcome to join us on the open day as early as noon for an exhibition organized by Human Rights in the Picture and Art Works Project. At 1 o'clock you will leave with the tour guide towards the OSCE from where we will continue to Maliveld, ICMP, Raad van State, Ruiterstandbeeld, Paleis Noordeinde, Justice and Peace, NHC, NIMD and around three o'clock we will arrive at the end point of the tour at the Prodemos.

Tour 2: From hostility to harmony

This walking tour takes you to the international zone where the majestic Peace Palace towers high above embassies from all corners of the world. Walking past organizations such as the former Yugoslavia Tribunal, we will reflect on war zones of the past and, more importantly, see how those tides have turned into peace zones. In addition, we will see the ways in which this described peace is maintained through cooperation, rule of law and good common understanding.

This tour starts at the Hague Memorial after which you will walk with the tour guide past the Peace Palace, the Benjamin Ferenczpath (which ensures that "Law, not war" has a future, the embassy district, the Nelson Mandela statue which will show that even in the future there will be a "long we to freedom", OPCW, Eurojust, International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, the Hague Conference on Private International Law and then finally Europol.

(Bike) Tour 3: Investigating international crime

On the bike we will visit the international zone where organizations that are part of the European Company for the Protection of Freedom are located. Cycle with us to reflect on history and use it as a guide for future collaboration. Together we will look back and remember what happened during World War II and how law changed the order of international relations.

This tour will take you from the Humanity Hub where you will be welcome on the open day as early as noon for an exhibition organized by Human Rights in the Picture and Art Works Project. At 12:30 you will depart by bicycle towards the first U.S. Embassy in the world, from there the tour guide will take you to the current U.S. Embassy, Clingendael, the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, The International Criminal Court, NATO, and finally the tour will end at 2:30 p.m. at the National Monument "Oranjehotel. Nice to know is that at the Oranjehotel at that time you can immediately join the Unplugged for Peace concert organised by the Residentie Orkest.
