Taking shorter showers, turning down the heating and turning off appliances you don't use. These are just a few savings tips that have been widely shared over the past year. Of all the major issues currently in play in the European Union, one seems to be at the forefront in terms of impact on our daily lives: the energy crisis. The energy crisis brings together the climate crisis and the war in Ukraine. This puts a double burden on the EU; climate change must be countered AND the EU wants to become independent of Russian energy.

The money from the recovery fund - started by the EU to help member states emerge from the corona crisis - is now also being used to tackle the energy crisis in the REPowerEU plan. This allows member states to receive funding for plans aimed at sustainable and green developments, with the goal of energy security and independence from Russian fossil fuels. In addition, the plan builds on the Fit for 55 plan that is part of the European Green Deal.

The Liaison Office of the European Parliament in the Netherlands and the Montesquieu Institute are organizing a debate on Friday, March 24 on the energy crisis, REPowerEU and the impact on member states and citizens.

Please be advised that this events will be in Dutch!
