This edition of BorderKitchen, the program series of the Crossing Border festival, is the very first Dutch live event by Murat Isik about his recently published book In the mist of Golden Gate Park. The long-awaited sequel to the successful novel Be invisible.
An epic story about the search for freedom and autonomy, finding great love, becoming a writer and the insurmountable bond with your family.
Summer 2001, Metin Mutlu goes to study in San Francisco. By entering this new world, he is determined to leave his old self behind: instead of a shy listener, he wants to become a self-confident and decisive man in America. A few weeks after his arrival, on Metin's twenty-fourth birthday, the September 11 attacks occur.
Metin studies international criminal law, but the idea that he will spend his life as a lawyer scares him. He therefore devotes himself fully to the Creative Writing elective, where he meets the mysterious Joan Springfield, a brilliant but troubled student for whom he falls head over heels.
Metin seems to be going well with his new free life. Until unpleasant developments in San Francisco and on the family front put his stay in a completely different light.
* The new book will be for sale during the program and Murat Isik will be signing afterwards.
