Stroom Den Haag

Art centre Stroom The Hague is a multifaceted organisation with various responsibilities and functions for the Netherlands, The Hague and the international arts field. Firstly, as a presentation institution, Stroom programmes contemporary art in a broad sense and in a variety of ways. Secondly, Stroom is responsible for the city of The Hague's 'non-museum art policy', which manifests itself in policy and programme in the field of art in public spaces. Thirdly, Stroom takes care of supporting and stimulating art and artists from The Hague.

Stroom deploys the imagination to enrich and clarify thinking about social developments and issues. From a belief in the social potential of visual art and in the confidence that it will therefore find social support, Stroom formulates a programme of art content in which the connection with the city and the meaning for (urban) society has priority.

The quality of Stroom's programme, the integrity of its working methods and its international orientation give it an institutional status. It combines that starting position with an accessible, informal, personal and involved attitude and public approach. Mutual exchange is central to this. The human dimension is crucial.

Stroom was established in 1990 as an independent foundation. The name Stroom was chosen because it stands for energy and movement.

Stroom The Hague is financially supported by the municipality of The Hague. The programme is structurally supported by the Mondriaan Fonds and BankGiro Lottery Fund. For each project and/or exhibition, we are also supported by various other funds (see relevant activities).
